NRRPT EXAM REVIEW TRAINING

LENGTH: 5 days

CONTACT: (410) 421-5454 mdavidson@chesnuc.com

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A five-day, examination-based course designed to prepare the qualified candidate to pass the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) examination. This course combines Instructional Systems Development (ISD) methodology with sample examinations to introduce and review the "required knowledges" tested by the NRRPT. Knowledge areas include Fundamentals, Detection and Measurements, and Applied Radiation Protection. Course content is based upon the Role Delineation constructed by the NRRPT Panel of Examiners in 1987 and reissued by the NRRPT Board of Directors in 1991. The U.S. Department of Energy encourages NRRPT registration for Radiological Control Technicians in 10 CFR 835 Implementation Guide G-10 CFR 835/J1, Radiation Safety Training, and DOE/EH-0256T, Radiological Control Manual. NRRPT registration is recognized by the NRC and INPO as a radiation protection “good practice.” The AAHP awards course attendees 32 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) towards maintenance of the CHP credential (course #2007-00-060).

The NRRPT administers the examination in February and August of each year, usually on the first Saturday of the month. The examination consists of 150 multiple choice questions and must be completed within four hours. For further information on the NRRPT, including eligibility and application, contact the NRRPT Executive Secretary at (509) 736-5400.

COURSE MATERIALS: Each participant will receive a Course Manual, Chart of the Nuclides (Nuclides and Isotopes), sample examinations to measure individual performance, and note cards. Participants should bring note-taking materials and a scientific calculator to each session. It is strongly recommended that the calculator used during the course be the same as that used on the actual examination.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Any Radiation Protection Technologist (RPT) - DOE Radiological Control Technicians, commercial nuclear power plant health physics technicians, Radiation Safety Officers, radiochemists, radiopharmacologists, medical radiologists, industrial radiographers, and environmental technologists. It is desirable, but not mandatory, that the trainee has been accepted as a registration candidate by the NRRPT.
