Project: Decommissioning Support at Connecticut Yankee Nuclear Power Plant

Description:

ChesNuc personnel provided technical consulting and independent review to CY management for documents and surveys as performed by the contractor. ChesNuc provided guidance to the client on regulatory issues for the License Termination Plan using MARSSIM guidance. In the mid-1970s, materials were inadvertently released from the site containing very-low-levels of licensed radioactive material. Of a total of 5,100 concrete blocks that were released, several hundred were later identified as having measurable levels of contamination. Other materials identified as contaminated included fill soil, wood planks, and miscellaneous laboratory cabinets. Approximately 145 offsite locations were identified and surveyed for CY-licensed material. ChesNuc personnel were responsible for assessing the levels of contamination identified, correlating the source term, determining the radiological hazards, and performing final dose assessments.

ChesNuc personnel provided technical consulting for the development of the Derived Concentration Guidelines (DCGL’s) for the License Termination Plan for the Yankee Rowe Nuclear Plant using MARSSIM guidance. ChesNuc was responsible for evaluating site-specific input parameters and RESRAD evaluations.
