Project: Technical Support to RWE NUKEM Corporation (RNC) to Disposition Thorium Nitrate Drums from Defense Logistics Agency/Defense National Stockpile Center (DLA/DNSC) Depots at Curtis Bay MD and Hammond IN

Description:

The DNSC Depots at Curtis Bay MD and Hammond IN were owned by the Federal Government and operated by the DLA, DNSC, for the purpose of storing strategic and critical materials. The Depots housed some 20,000 drums of thorium nitrate, which was approved for disposal at the Nevada Test Site (NTS). ChesNuc provided operational health physics and radioactive materials transportation oversight, and industrial health and safety support to the project. Support included the development of operational health physics and health and safety procedures, and on-site direction of health physics personnel. All material was successfully and safely transported to NTS for disposal.
